These Terms of Service (“Terms”) together with our privacy policy govern your use of the AI Writer service (“Service”) provided by EssayBarrister.com.

Background

EssayBarrister.com’s AI writing service generates concise legal study guides and essays intended solely for educational purposes, providing users with reference material to enhance understanding and facilitate independent learning. These guides summarise key legal concepts, case law, statutes, and academic content clearly, assisting law students and those studying legal subjects in structuring their studies, revision, and research.

Important notice – users must check the law

The Service generates content relating to law. Users are solely responsible for independently verifying the accuracy, currency, and applicability of any legal content produced by the Service before relying on it for any purpose. Law changes frequently, varies between jurisdictions, and is subject to interpretation by the courts. AI-generated legal content may be:

  • Out of date, superseded, or no longer good law;
  • Incorrect as to the relevant jurisdiction (for example, content may reference English law where Scots law, Northern Irish law, or the law of another jurisdiction applies);
  • Based on fabricated or misattributed cases, statutes, or authorities (see “hallucinations” below);
  • Incomplete or misleading where nuance, procedural rules, or specific facts are material.

The Service does not provide legal advice and no solicitor-client, barrister-client, or any other professional or fiduciary relationship is created between you and EssayBarrister.com. Content generated by the Service must not be relied upon as a substitute for advice from a qualified, regulated legal professional. If you require legal advice, you must consult a qualified solicitor, barrister, or equivalent professional in the relevant jurisdiction.

Users must independently check every case, statute, regulation, and legal proposition referenced in generated content against authoritative primary sources (such as legislation.gov.uk, official law reports, and recognised legal databases) before using or citing it.

Academic integrity and permitted usage

  • The AI-generated content provided by this Service is intended solely for reference, guidance, research, or general educational purposes.
  • Users must not submit any AI-generated essay or assignment, either wholly or in part, as their own original work to any educational institution, examination board, awarding body, or professional regulator (including, without limitation, the Solicitors Regulation Authority, the Bar Standards Board, CILEX, or any equivalent body).
  • Any request from users implying intent to submit generated content as original academic or professional work will result in immediate account termination.

Prohibited use and offences

  • It is strictly prohibited to use our AI writing service to complete or submit assignments, assessments, examinations, or coursework that students are required to complete personally.
  • We explicitly disclaim responsibility and liability if a user violates this term.
  • Users must not use the Service to produce content that could be passed off as legal advice to third parties, or used in actual legal proceedings without independent verification and the involvement of a qualified legal professional.
  • Users agree to indemnify and hold harmless EssayBarrister.com from any claims, damages, legal actions, regulatory penalties, or losses arising from their misuse of the Service, specifically including violations of academic integrity, relevant legislation, or any reliance on uncross-checked legal content.

Usage limits and registration

  • Users may generate essays of up to 1,000 words without registering, using only our basic AI model.
  • Users may generate essays of up to 1,500 words using our basic AI model, if registered.
  • Intermediate and premium models require registration and payment of a fee.
  • Users registering an account agree to provide accurate information and are responsible for keeping their account secure.

Publication of free and Basic essays

Please read this section carefully before using the free or Basic AI service.

  • Essays generated using our free service and our Basic AI model are published publicly on our website and indexed by search engines. This is a fundamental feature of the free/Basic service and is how we are able to offer it at no cost (or at a reduced cost).
  • When you use the free or Basic Service, you submit certain inputs to us – typically an essay title, optional notes or instructions, and (optionally) a writing sample (“User Inputs”). The generated essay itself is produced using AI services that we pay to develop, host and run at our own cost. Accordingly:
    • The generated essay is our property, not yours. You acquire no ownership, copyright, or other proprietary interest in any essay generated by the free or Basic Service. All rights in the generated essay vest in EssayBarrister.com from the moment of generation.
    • In respect of your User Inputs, you grant EssayBarrister.com a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide, sub-licensable licence to use, reproduce, store, process, and incorporate those User Inputs for the purposes of operating the Service, generating the essay, and publishing, hosting, displaying, distributing, and indexing the resulting essay and any related material on our website and via third-party platforms.
    • You confirm that you own or have all necessary rights in your User Inputs and that providing them to us does not infringe any third party’s rights.
  • You should not include personal data, confidential information, or anything you do not wish to be associated with a publicly published essay in your User Inputs.

Removal, unpublishing, and data protection requests

  • Because the generated essay is our property and its publication is an inherent feature of the free/Basic Service – and because hosting, generating, and serving this content costs us money – removal, unpublishing, de-indexing, or search engine delisting of free or Basic essays is NOT included within the free or Basic Service, and users have no contractual right to require removal.
  • We do not remove free or Basic essays on receipt of a data protection, “right to be forgotten”, or similar request as a matter of course. The published essay is our own content; to the extent it incorporates any personal data derived from your User Inputs, you provided that data voluntarily to a service you knew at the point of use would result in public publication, and our legitimate interests in hosting our content (and recouping the cost of providing the free/Basic Service) will ordinarily override such requests.
  • Removal is offered as a separate, paid, discretionary service. Users who wish to have their content removed, unpublished, de-indexed, or delisted may request this subject to payment of the applicable fee, which will be quoted on request.
  • Where we agree to submit requests to search engines or other third parties, we do not guarantee removal from search results, cached pages, archives, mirrors, or third-party websites, as those outcomes are controlled by third parties.
  • We may, but are not obliged to, remove content from our website following a user request, unless we are required to do so by law.

Wallet and payments

  • Users may top-up their wallet balance via Stripe, with payments processed securely. Wallet balances may only be withdrawn under exceptional circumstances and at our sole discretion.
  • Transactions appear on users’ bank statements with the words UNIWRITER.
  • If an account is terminated due to misuse, remaining wallet balances may be forfeited.
  • We reserve the right to deduct funds directly from your wallet for services provided.

Essay quality and guarantees

  • Basic essays are generated to a 2:2 academic standard. No guarantee of grade is offered.
  • Intermediate essays use an intermediate AI model, and premium essays use a premium AI model, each aiming for higher academic standards as specified. EssayBarrister.com’s prompts are highly detailed and tailored to guide the AI in generating the standard requested.
  • If the generated essay falls short of the purchased quality standard (intermediate or premium), users who select the optional “Grade Guarantee” (additional fee applies) may be eligible for a refund.
  • If the verification report confirms the essay does not meet the purchased grade standard, users may request a refund through our support email address or form.
  • Refunds will not be granted if it is determined that the user intentionally instructed the AI to produce a poor-quality or non-academic essay.
  • No guarantee whatsoever is given as to the legal accuracy, currency, or jurisdictional correctness of any content. Quality guarantees relate to academic style and structure only.

Refund Policy

  • Refund requests must be supported by a grade guarantee failure report.
  • Intentional generation of inadequate or junk content to claim refunds constitutes misuse and will void refund eligibility.
  • Due to the nature of AI-generated content, the AI may occasionally generate incorrect or fictitious references, cases, or statutes (“hallucinations”). This is a particularly important risk in legal content and is an inherent limitation of AI technology. Users accept this risk when using the Service and accept that they must independently verify every authority cited.
  • Refunds will only be considered if the user can demonstrate clearly that more than 50% of the references provided in a premium or intermediate-level essay are entirely fabricated or non-existent. Incorrect or broken links to otherwise legitimate references do not constitute fabricated references and will not qualify for a refund.
  • Any refund request based on reference fabrication must be supported by clear evidence demonstrating the proportion of entirely non-existent references, and refunds will be reviewed manually at our sole discretion.
  • Refunds are assessed manually and processed within 14 working days from approval.
  • Eligible refunds will be made via Stripe to the original payment card.

Misuse and account termination

  • Deliberate misuse of the Service, including but not limited to intentionally generating substandard content, attempting to use generated content as legal advice to third parties, or violating these Terms, will lead to account termination without refund.
  • We reserve the right to refuse service or terminate accounts at our sole discretion, particularly where misuse or fraud is suspected.

Liability and indemnification

  • We are not responsible for any academic, legal, professional, financial, or other consequences resulting from the use of, or reliance on, our generated content.
  • To the fullest extent permitted by law, EssayBarrister.com excludes all liability for any loss or damage arising from reliance on generated legal content, including but not limited to loss arising from outdated law, incorrect jurisdiction, fabricated authorities, or misinterpretation.
  • Users agree to indemnify and hold harmless EssayBarrister.com, its officers, employees, and affiliates from any claims or damages arising from their use of the Service.

Amendments

We may update these Terms periodically. Users will be notified of significant changes via email or on-site notices. Continued use after updates indicates acceptance of new terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed exclusively by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved within the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
